Getting Around Calais

Buses

Foot passengers arriving in the ferry port can make use of the shuttle bus run by P&O Ferries. The shuttle buses run hourly from 10:00-19:00, are marked ‘Terminal Car Ferry/Centre Ville’, and link Gare Calais-Ville and Place d’Armes with the car ferry terminal.

Balad’in

This is a free mini bus service that runs in the centre of Calais. You can’t miss these bright yellow mini busses. They stop at yellow Baladi’in bus stops. Three buses operate from 9am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday and show up pretty much every 10 minutes. The route starts at Place d’Armes in the north of town and the south of the town – where the theatre is.

Calais Trains

Calais has two stations: Calais-Ville in the centre of Calais and Calais-Fréthun (for TGV and Eurostar) located southwest of town near the Channel Tunnel entrance. They are connected by the free Navette TER. There is a regular courtesy bus service to and from the station to the port.

Gare Calais-Ville:
This is the mainline train service serving Calais for regional services on the TER network in Nord-Pas de Calais, while it is also on the TER Grand Vitesse line from Lille. It will take you to Boulogne, Amiens, Arras, Lille and Dunkirk. Ticket office is open Monday-Saturday 6:30am-8:30pm, Sunday 8:30am-9:30am and 1:30-8:30pm. Find it on Avenue du President Wilson.

Gare Calais-Fréthun:
Gare Calais-Fréthun, is a TGV station 10km/6 miles southwest of the town. It is the first port of call in France for the Eurostar route before landing in Lille. Passengers can alight here to connect onto the SNCF or TGV Nord to Paris services. Since summer 2006 it is possible to use Eurostar for domestic journeys between Paris Gare du Nord and Calais Frethun, although it should be pointed out that passengers are subject to the same immigration checks as if they were using Eurostar for an international journey.

TGV:
The TGV also stops here for national and regional journeys.

* Lille-Calais-Boulogne TER Grande Vitesse (High Speed)
