For mainstream shopping head for the village of Coquelles to visit Cite Europe. With representation from all over Western Europe, you instantly become an international shopper just by walking through one of the many entrances. It is huge with a staggering 147 retail outlets, 20 restaurants in the Cite Gourmande area and parking for over four thousand cars. It is difficult to imagine that just 20 years ago this site was just a village road.

The philosophy behind Cite Europe is to bring the shopper a cosmopolitan choice of shops from around Europe in one huge space (59,000 square metres). Familiar names include Disney Store, Yves Rocher, Etam, Tie Rack, Toys R Us, and Naf Naf. Stylish casual wear is available at Aigle, Zara, Carbone and Olly Gan.

The complex is also home to Carrefour hypermarket, ideal for general shopping, plus for boozy bargains you can visit Tesco on the lower ground floor and Le Chais for an interesting collection of French wines.

If all that shopping makes you hungry, head for the restaurants and bar area on the Cite Gourmand on the lower floor. Or perhaps you can take in a film at the Gaumont Cinema.

For further information head for the information desk on level 1 in the central mall at the main intersection. A bilingual hostess is on duty from 10am to 8pm and can assist with locating shops and services. To make the most of the shopping you could benefit from the cpluscard. It is simple and free to get one. When you pass through Cite Europe, pick up your CplusCard at the Information desk of the shopping centre. Or go online to the CplusCard website.

Incidentally, there’s also a bowling alley at Cite Europe open every day of the year from 11am to 1am. Check it out here at
